Ladies 3s played top of the league Bedford on Saturday who have won all bar two of their games by numerous goals and some into double figures.

So with us currently sitting at fourth in the league, we were prepared for a tough and defensive game. With our usual team goalie away for the weekend, former footie goalie, Chops stepped up and donned the kit for the team. With a strong defensive line of Annamarie, Rebecca, Trish and Helen supporting Chops, we courageously kept the Bedford attack under control. In the first half Bedford only managed to get a couple of cracking shots at goal but Chops was outstanding and each time stormed off the goal line kicking the ball out of touch practically to the half way line.  With no score at half time we were fired up for the second half as it was clear the Bedford team were starting to get frustrated at not being able to break through to score.  We had a little more of the attacking game in the second half with Kate G and H, Sophie and Charlotte battling their way up the field and getting into our attacking quarter a number of times. The midfield had a busy time supporting both defence and attack with Emma and Liz but especially (birthday girl) Megan and Jennifer who despite their youth, rose to the level of the tough game and easily held their own against the strong Bedford play. Chops continued to showcase her goalie skills – diving, leaping and using every part of her armour to make a number of cracking saves. Into the last quarter of the game, the pressure started to increase as Bedford were awarded a number of short corners in close succession. However, their frustration increased as Chops continued to dominate the D with her spectacular saves and goalie skills thwarting them from scoring.  This led to an increased push from Bedford who went into a 9-person attack and as a result, this relentless attack finally broke through and Bedford managed to slot in a sly goal after a frantic melee in the circle. Although disappointing we were pleased they only managed to get the one goal past us and that we had made them really work for that!  Player of the match was without question Chops who was totally awesome – watch out Nat and Kelly!
