Broxbourne 5 Berko 3

The Ladies 2s had a mixed game against Broxbourne, losing 5-3. As we were promoted last season we knew it would be a tough match, but we started well with good attacking play, which resulted in an early goal from Alice a couple of minutes in.

That didn’t seem to deter Broxbourne, and they fought back well, equalising quickly, and scoring again soon after to take them 2-1 up.
We had some good passing and distribution around the pitch with some excellent attacking runs towards the D, but Broxbourne kept the pressure on, and we went into half time 4-1 down.
After an inspiring team talk from Terri, we started the second half determined to fight back, and played a lot better. The midfield did a great job of distributing the ball to the forwards, and we had some excellent runs up the pitch. Charlie scored after a fantastic assist from Kate Goodwyn, and we felt as though we were back in the game.
Broxbourne continued their counter attack, and were awarded a p-flick, which Nat saved with ease. The defence did well under continuous pressure from the opposition, and held firm, clearing the ball out well to the midfield. Lauren, Alice and Jo distributed the ball, creating space and finding holes in Broxbourne’s attack. A loose ball in midfield was picked up by Molly, who passed it to Charlie at the top of the D. Charlie managed to beat the last defender, and scored, sending the ball to the left corner.
Broxbourne’s 5th goal was there fastest player, unfortunately breaking through our mid field and defensive lines. Each player was man on man, a very tight game in the second half with a 2 - 1 lead. Great saves from Nat, Lana and Charlotte, helping us pull through a tough first game back.
Despite losing 5-3, we had a great second half winning that 2-1, and a much improved performance by everyone. Lots to take away from the game; we’ll put this one down as a practice match!
Player’s player went to Lauren and Charlie, with goals from Alice x 1 and Charlie x 2
