An early start for the ladies 3's away at Broxbourne. With Chops away in New York City, it was left to Rebecca to take the captain's reins...

Berko started aggressively with plenty of 23 and D penetrations. Liz had an early shot that went just wide, and following some great passing between Emily, Emma and Charlotte we had some other shots on target but all sadly denied by the keeper. Sophie H, playing this week as right mid, made some strong runs and linked up nicely with Jo and Ann Baxter who frequently ruffled the feathers of the Broxbourne defence with her extraordinary flare on the ball.
At the back we had little to do for the first 35 minutes, so Zoe and Trish pushed up and supported the mids well allowing us plenty of attacking play. Following some short corners, Kate Hedge and Ann had further chances but we still couldn't find the back of the net. End of half a frustrating 0-0.
After a few changes in structure, Broxbourne started the second half strongly and quickly broke through the Berko defence. Sam came sliding out and made a great close down but an oppo striker was first to the loose ball. 1-0. We were frustrated but determined to get ourselves some goals. A couple more short corners won, and after a shot from Sophie was deflected, Ann hit hard at goal and scored!! 1-1!! Now we felt sure we could clinch a win!
Zoe saw off plenty of attacking runs down the right, and passed neatly to Emma, Emily & Jo who set up a few more good chances, but the Broxbourne defence were determined to see us off. Liz also linked up well down the left with Charlotte and Kate, but still we were denied between the sticks!
But then the oppo's right winger broke through our high play and was sprinting towards goal, Rebecca at LB charged after her and was left with no option but to commit to a foul in the D to stop the strike. A short corner was awarded, and the straight strike was unfortunately deflected by Rebecca (running 1) into the goal. A frustrated captain apologised to her team but we fought on. Another counter attack by Broxbourne saw Charlotte overtake Liz to make a great tackle, then storm back off up the pitch to receive a good pass from Liz. A few more chances were created but we couldn't score. 2-1 loss at the final whistle.
MOM went to Charlotte Holland for her work rate and determination. Votes also went to 7 other players.
