On Saturday 25th the ladies 1st team travelled to Hertford to play a game of hockey in the bitter cold. After a quick team talk from David Wells and a lot of jumping round trying to get warm the ladies started playing the game.

Hertford were a very quick team and it look us off guard as we had not played a team that fast before and we were not used to it. After some miscellaneous passing and lots of breakdown of our play Hertford scored their first goal from a long corner which according to the umpire did not go straight in. Soon after that Hertford got their second goal. The last 10 minutes of the first half however the ladies came out fighting and really showed why we should be in this league. With lots of linking play the girls we rattled the opposition and we were rewarded with a goal from Natasha assisted by Anneke. With more shots on goal and a very close short corner the first half ended 2-1. After the team talk at halftime the second half started but Hertford had come back out fighting and showing dominance scored another goal quickly. After that the girls never really came back and found it very difficult to get into the attacking D to make shots off. This meant the defenders had to make lots of tackles and the girls worked hard to stop Hertfords attack but Hertford did end up getting 2 more goals in the second half meaning the game ended 5-1 to Hertford. MOM was joint between Esme for great attacking runs along the right wing and Helen for her strong defending throughput the game. The captain had the final decision and it was Esme who got the title this week. Bad luck ladies but let’s come out fighting next week!
