The only thing that was miserable about this match was the weather!
In the first half, all of the serious attacks came from Berkhamsted as the team created chance after chance.
The first goal came early in the first half when Ellie C sent the ball across to the left far post and Terri popped it in. Our attackers (Emily A, Ellie C, Hannah, Lauren W, Rosey, Kate H and Terri) carried the ball well up the field and passed slickly around their defence. In the D they were hungry to capitalise, notably Terri who scored again from the danger area. We went in at half time 2-0 up.
Welwyn were better organised in the second half and some of their pacey forwards began to put our defence under pressure. They made the most one of their few opportunities - 2-1 - and began to look as though they could eat up our lead. However, a little while later one of their players kicked the ball on the goal line and we were awarded a PF, converted by Kate G. After that the defence (Zoe, Jo, Jenny, Kate and Sam, in goal) closed ranks and Welwyn were unable to seriously threaten us again. Terri completed her hat-trick, this time a cracking straight hit on a penalty corner. Ellie C deservedly scored the last of the 5 goals in the closing stages of the match.
Votes for MOM were spread across most of the team, which reflected the all round team effort. MOM was split four ways between to Terri, Ellie, Hannah and Kate G who each received 2 nominations but Zoe, Emily, Kate H, Rosey and Jenny each received a vote too.
