The ladies 3’s had a home game on the local Beach at Tring International Hockey Stadium, with the added extra of a few sideline lagoons.
Having lost Sophie Lawrance to her school Christmas Fair during the week, we were down to 13 and hoping that everyone else was fit and raring to go into our battle with fellow unbeaten Rickmansworth, who topped the table, knowing it was going to be a challenge. Hoping to take some inspiration from the ladies 2’s winning before us we started well and had some runs on attack but also having to defend as well. The defence held strong with Chops making some crucial saves, Rebecca, Sophie, Jo and Robyn, defending well and clearing the ball. There was one attack that snuck through and we found ourselves 1-0 down, a well struck goal from the top of the D. We lost Robyn to a groin injury, which meant a re-jig of positions with Kate G coming into defence from Midfield. Despite a bevvy of short corners for Rickmansworth, we went in to half time 0-1 down.
Knowing we needed to get an early goal our forward line, Terri, Charlotte, Kate H and Emily supported by midfield of Rosey, Emma and Laura had chances, but were unable to capitalise. We continued to fight but were unable to find the back of the net and sadly our unbeaten run came to the end with a 4-0 loss. Player of the match votes went to Rebecca, for her sterling efforts running out 1 on short corners. Laura, for marking a particularly difficult player out of the game. Chops for her amazing performance in goal. The winner was Jo for her defending. On to next week, when we hope to be back to winning ways.
