Berko Ladies 2s rocked up to Simon Balle School keen to get started with our match against Hertford. After a great team talk from Bunni, who would be voicing her encouragement from the side-lines with her Berko socks wrapped around her cast.

We got into position feeling determined and excited, ready to get going! As soon as the game started it was clear that we were going to be working our socks off. Our Midfielders were constantly sprinting up and down the pitch with Hannah W making some excellent runs into our attacking D, Maria getting past the midfield with some nifty skills and Emily, Hannah P and Charlie (the birthday girl!) all working tirelessly to score despite Hertford’s strong defense. Annoyingly, Berko’s determination was mirrored by Hertford’s and both teams were raising their game. Unfortunately we conceded a host of short corners which eventually led to Hertford scoring despite some excellent clears by Nat. Fueled with even more determination our defense continued to battle with Rebecca, Babs and Helen clearing the balls to Ellie and Lauren in Midfield who both managed to get past Hertford with their quick passes and skills. However, all our exertion in defense meant that Helen went off with an injury with Maria becoming sweeper. As half-time approached we annoyingly conceded another goal to Hertford’s speedy attack.
At half-time Bunni gave us some words of encouragement and said that we were all playing well but described our play as ‘in the middle; like a sausage roll’ (?)  and with that in our minds the Ladies 2s set out for a better second half.
We continued to battle with Maria taking on their attack and making some brilliant tackles in our defensive half and our midfield and attack putting lots of pressure on their defense with a few shots on goal and lots of fab tackles all across the pitch. We were unlucky to finish the match with a score of 3,0 despite everybody’s best efforts. Man of the Match went to Maria for her fab efforts in defense!
