The M3s core squad was delighted to be strengthened by special guests Julian Laxon, Robin Page and Charlie Ormerod for this game against Shefford and Sandy who were 3rd in the league.

This game was the start to a crucial 6 point weekend which would determine whether the M3s avoid relegation or not. Read on …
Berko started strongly and the pressure was soon rewarded with a short corner converted by Wells. More chances continued to come. Dubenski was disappointed to miss a deflection from short distance. Shefford & Sandy had their moments in attack but were repelled by strong defence particularly from Charlie, Sal and Page. The first half ended with a final short corner to Berko – a strong strike from Wells was deflected by the defence high into the opposition net but was ruled to have been initially struck high so no goal. 1-0 half time.
The second half started in the same vein with both teams having periods of dominance. For a moment it looked like Whitby had scored roofing a loose ball at a short corner but this was ruled a slap rather than a flick so disallowed. Shefford & Sandy really applied the pressure towards the end requiring a remarkable one on one save from Johnson minutes before the final whistle.
The final whistle came and we had won 1-0 securing our crucial 3 points. Johnson was particularly jubilant yet relaxed over the ‘2-0’ win but was shocked to hear it was only 1-0 meaning his last minute save was a game saver. Just shows ‘if you can keep your head when others are losing theirs then it probably means you just don’t understand the seriousness of the situation’. Charlie Ormerod was unanimously voted man of the match for his outstanding game.
Great result. C’mon Stevenage M3s – our six point weekend is on !
