After a frozen pitch last week, the 1s were raring to go this week but had a very tough trip to league leaders Bedford.
Bedford started well moving the ball around confidently but Berko soaked up the pressure and slightly against the run of play were first to score when a well-worked short corner was looped in by Swampy (to what he optimistically called the top corner). For the rest of the first half Bedford continued to press but Berkhamsted defended well as a team and some great stickwork by Rodders got us to half time in the lead.
The second half followed a similar pattern with Bedford having a lot of the ball but some great Berkhamsted man marking all over the pitch was giving them few options. Berko then doubled their lead when a long ball through was thought by the Bedford team and goalie to be going off the back line but Pete did not give up on it and got there just before it went off to make it 2-0.
A period of short corner after short corner followed for Bedford but again Berkhamsted held firm and with around 10 minutes to go Ollie Bowman made it 3 with a looping flick from about 1mm inside the D (cue lots of Bedford complaints!). Bedford still had lots of the ball but a complete team effort and great workrate from Berko had seen the opposition run out of ideas. Ollie Webb wrapped things up in the last couple of minutes making it 4-0 against the top of the league. Probably our best performance of the season and the 1s will now look to take that form into the second half of the season.
