Its crunch time in the never ending season and there were a few crunches in the game against top of the league Shefford & Sandy 2's played on a spring like Sunday afternoon. They are a strong and physical side but we held our own and had much of the play in the opening period.
We were creating chances and had a number of short corners but sadly we just couldn't seem to find the back of the goal. As the first half continued Shefford & Sandy came more into he game and from one of the few short corners they had they managed to squeeze the ball past an outstretched Mark Johnson in our goal and went one nil down, much against the run of play it has to be said. The first half continued with the end to end action, physical challenges and some good hockey from both sides. The first half come to an end with Shefford & Sandy holding a narrow one nil lead, so there was all for us to play for in the second half.
Some good positive discussion at half time about how we could improve on our first half display and look to bring ourselves back level with the opposition. We started the second half and continued the good play of the first half creating chances but just missing that final touch to convert good positions and play into a goal. The first twenty minutes of the second half was fairly even with both sides looking to attack and score. The last 15 minutes of the half was all Berko with us putting some real pressure on the opposition. We were spreading the play nicely, moving the ball round the back and attacking down both flanks. Sadly a goal continued to evade us and the game finished with a one nil loss.
Despite the loss it was a good game and as a team we played really well which was confirmed by the small crowd who'd turned out to support us. We still have two games to play so all is not lost with this result and can still head off relegation with the right results in those two remaining games, we just need to believe!!!
