On a cold and wet Saturday afternoon Berko third XI congregated in Luton for their league game. Unfortunately there were only nine of us to begin with, although James Russell arrived just before the start so we did have ten.
Unfortunately we had to play the whole match with ten men but this did not dampen the spirits of the team. Following a rousing team talk from captain Ed Goodwin we matched our opponents for the first fifteen minutes, looking dangerous on the counter attack.
Luton took the lead midway through the first half following a fine finish from their centre forward. However, we continued to compete with James Russell and Josh Hayes proving to be a constant threat up front. Only 1-0 down at half time Berko continued to push forward in the second half but the ten men were caught on the break to go 2-0 down. This didn’t dampen spirits at all and Berko got their rewards as Duncan Hodges released Josh Hayes who crossed for Steve Redman to score after the keeper had stopped the first shot.
Berko pushed for the equaliser, whilst Paul Krafft, Dubi and Matt Prowse kept it tight at the back. Despite a great effort we were unable to get the equaliser. A great effort from the ten men, very unlucky not to get a point. Well played, everyone.
