BHHHC 4s kicked off against Oxford Hawks full of energy, with Alex, Kyle and Ryan pressing. In the first minute Hin spotted a gap on the left, zoomed towards the keeper, and fired a shot—only for the keeper to make a dramatic save. But Hin wasn’t finished; using his reverse stick, he flicked the ball past the diving keeper, and as it rolled towards the goal, Ryan swooped in to make sure it crossed the line. Berko led 1-0, and the crowd (subs!) went wild.
As we are such an amazing team everyone wants to play with us so we had a full team of 16. Our subs started changing after 5 minutes. Tom Arnold, Tom Hartmann, Senior (old) Hueting, Andrew, and Paul, after providing great crowd support, joined the game.
After a bit of end to end play - although to be fair I really can’t remember exactly what happened. The Hawks decided to play a bit of football in their D and gave Berko a short corner. Gareth stepped up to inject for the short corner. The ball zoomed to Jamie, its target, while Kyle decided to show off his drag flick skills, sending the ball into the top left corner. What a goal.. And the crowd went wild again.
Half time and Berko lead 2-0!
The Hawks came out swinging in the second half like they just got shouted out by their coach. Some impressive defending by the defensive unit of James A, Tom Ayres, Lewis, Andrew Lunn and Jamie kept the Hawks at Bay.
At 45 minutes, the Hawks struck with all the subtlety of a marching band in a library, and managed to get back into the game. However, our defensive unit stayed strong and prevented further damage being done.
In the last 15 minutes our midfield unit of Tom Arnold, Larry, Paul, and Gareth stepped up and regained control of the game. Our stand in captain then led by example, and sent in an injection the wrong way. Fortunately it found Gareth who superbly hit it into the goal.
Berko lead 3 - 1
With Berko now strutting around like they just found out they were winning the lottery, they pushed hard for the remaining seconds. And just like that, they walked away with the victory.
I got all this way and forgot to mention Chris, our goalie… sorry but thanks for a great game. I don’t get to see you often from the other end of the pitch!!!
Apologies if any of this is incorrect - I have just realised how hard it is to remember everything that happened in a match.
Special thanks to Izzy and Joe for umpiring and most importantly James for collecting the pizza.
MOM - Tom Ayres (again)
DOD - Yours Truly, Ryan Hueting
